Supporting Older People (SOP) aim to alleviate isolation and loneliness for older people who have little or no contact with people other than agency care workers. Without their services many clients would be extremely isolated and would not be able to leave their homes.
SOP enhance emotional well-being in an age group where loneliness and depression is an ever increasing problem. Human companionship is essential to good health. SOP would argue that it is fundamental to their very existence as functioning human beings and underpins their physical, spiritual and emotional state.
Volunteers are at the heart of everything SOP do, and they welcome people of all ages and backgrounds. Their youngest volunteer is 16, whilst the oldest is 97! They offer an informal interview, and take up two references and a Disclosure and Barring Scheme check for each volunteer, prior to them joining the team.
SOP ensure that you are comfortable in your role by providing ongoing support, information and relevant training, and aim to meet any out-of-pocket expenses, provided these have been agreed in advance.
